Let your body tell you what you can accomplish

Let your body tell you what you can accomplish

During my time with Playboy, I joined the Xtreme Team. It was a lot of fun and physically challenging. Not only were we taught by professionals in the area we were competing in, but we received free swag bags. We rock climbed, mountain biked, kite surfed, and ran an NYC marathon (and so much more).

In my 40's after having three kids, remarkably enough, I competed in my first Spartan Race. Funny enough, I signed up for a tough mudder three times but had to drop out. Every time I signed up, I got pregnant (HA). But the time came, and I finally was able to get a team together and compete in Spartan.
While training, I was completing an obstacle course swinging ring to ring my muddy hand slipped, and I fell into the pit of mud. Just to my luck, I fell just right to fracture my ankle. From that day on, I was stuck in a boot for a few weeks. The amazing part of this story was a strong mind overcame a weak body, with a swollen foot and not knowing what would happen; I completed the race. My teammates were of tremendous support; they helped me jump the fire in the end. My ankle was in some pain, but I was not going to let it hold me back.
I was invited to attend Colleen's Dream that very evening for the first time and for my special friend Nicole, and there was no way I was going to miss that. Foolishly, I put on my gown and heels, and about midnight I figured we better go to ER because it was progressively getting worse. I walked out with a boot, but this time with a spartan medal and a gown in hand. This incident didn't stop me but only fueled my passion, I have completed 3 Spartan races since then.
And I recently was asked on a whim to hike the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim (we went south to north) with my Crossfit family. I don't know if I appreciated my body the way I do now, and how amazing the human body is and what it is capable of doing. I will not take it for granted.
There are so many strong, passionate individuals that will not allow anything to hold them back. I believe that the mind is as strong as the body. I have had three children naturally, no epidural, no drugs. I feel like a lot of that was a strong mind. There is a song that I love. Here is the part that has always stood out to me:
Enjoy your body and use it every way you can... Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own. Dance...even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room Read the directions, even if you don't follow them...
